I would like to know the criteria, timeframe and measures used in the evaluation. Many angel and early stage investor groups are moving the dial for female engagement in STEM and start-ups with a long way to go. The evidence is there and available

Comment on Turning around Australia’s lagging economic complexity by FZeichner https://www.innovationaus.com/turning-around-australias-lagging-economic-complexity/#comment-2844 Thu, 18 Jul 2024 04:11:17 +0000 https://www.innovationaus.com/?p=62153#comment-2844 Couldn’t agree more with you Roy.

It’s also no coincidence that we rank 22nd on business efficiency and 18 on infrastructure in the latest 2024 IMD rankings. Ironically, echoing our lucky country heritage, we rose in overall ranking due to relative economic performance driven by commodity exports. Time to invest in the new future.

It’s probably worth investing now. We can’t rely on importing US culture wholesale anymore as the internal contradictions begin to play out in their society.

Since Net-Zero is an impossible target, it will never achieve it’s ‘objective’ and thus be funded indefinitely until we realise it’s a waste of money!

It can be referred to as Closed Cycle Propulsion Without Exhaust and will work in space.
Individual problem solvers are an untapped resource that could be a solution.

Comment on Defence to wear new APS contractor cuts by bryce@growright.digital https://www.innovationaus.com/defence-to-wear-new-aps-contractor-cuts/#comment-2836 Thu, 30 May 2024 01:10:17 +0000 https://www.innovationaus.com/?p=61348#comment-2836 Defence apparently equates to approximately 50% of the whole of government expenditure on consultancies. Some are high profile like KMPG, but there is plenty of non-tech engagements like property management. I think, happy to be corrected, that Defence also avoided the original round of cuts due to sensitives around their critical role. Interesting to see Environment in the mix, as a new department it may have been hard for the powers that be to determine what level of savings they wanted to see (limited historical data). I think they also avoided the first round of cuts as a result.
It would be good to see the Government own this change a bit more, with replacement funding for the APS roles, rather than just cuts. Hard to hire APS to replace contractors/consultants if all you have to work with are mandatory funding cuts.

Comment on Our skills black hole is Australia’s next urgent challenge by patrick@futureskillsorganisation.com.au https://www.innovationaus.com/our-skills-black-hole-is-australias-next-urgent-challenge/#comment-2835 Mon, 27 May 2024 10:32:50 +0000 https://www.innovationaus.com/?p=61334#comment-2835 A great article. Thank you.

Our traditional education and training system is not able to keep up with the rapid changes in technology. The requirement for lifelong learning and the delivery of information as micro-credentials—quick to produce and deliver—calls for a more flexible approach.

Despite the widening digital skills gap, companies still go to universities for talent. It’s necessary to open up alternate learning pathways.
