NSW pre-Budget review bleeds into more innovation grant programs

At least two more industry and innovation grant programs have been impacted by the New South Wales government pre-Budget review, leading to growing calls for the programs that were suddenly put on hold in May to be reinstated.

Local startups and the opposition have rebuked the Minns government for the funding pause, which they say damages the state’s reputation as a technology hub and risks a “brain drain” to other states.

In mid-May, grant programs collectively worth more than $227 million were paused by the government, pending the outcome of the Comprehensive Expenditure Review that will inform the September state Budget.
