Sydney digital privacy firm Haventec has won the cybersecurity award at the InnovationAus 2021 Awards for Excellence in recognition of its globally-patented platform stopping usernames and passwords from being stolen.

The InnovationAus2021 Awards for Excellence were presented at a gala black-tie dinner held on Wednesday night at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney.

The cybersecurity category was sponsored by Mimecast, and was awarded to Haventec.

The digital privacy company has developed, validated and commercialised Haventec Authenticate, an automated multi-factor authentication solution that is significantly more secure than current authentication processes.

The Haventec platform provides a more seamless experience using the latest passwordless and biometrics technology. The company was founded with a vision of enabling the open enterprise to engage digitally, without the risk of maintaining and operating large repositories of sensitive information.

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner, which is working to safeguard Australians at risk from online harms and promote safer online experiences, and cybersecurity software company BRYK were highly commended in the category at the InnovationAus awards.

“Cyber resilience is a key concern for businesses and governments globally, with Australian organisations driving innovation as the threat landscape evolves,” Mimecast ANZ country manager Nick Lennon said.

“We’re proud to partner with InnovationAus to acknowledge the achievements of Australian cybersecurity changemakers with the potential to make an impact globally.”

Since the first Australian government cybersecurity strategy was launched in 2016, cybersecurity has evolved drastically, with a revamped strategy unveiled last year.

Cybersecurity is now a national priority across all sectors, and the federal government has passed several laws in relation to this, including the recent critical infrastructure reforms.

There is now also a solid and fast-growing industry around cybersecurity in Australia, with companies based on deep tech research in everything from cryptography to artificial intelligence.
